What is Refresh Rate in Mobile ? Refresh Rate vs FPS. Smartphones having 90 Hz to 120 Hz refresh rate.
Refresh Rate

Ever since the craze of mobile gaming has increased among people, the promotion of display refresh rate by smartphone manufacturer companies has increased significantly.  The computer monitor already has a high refresh rate.  But now the interest of people in mobile gaming is increasing, so now this trend is also increasing in mobile.

Today we are going to talk about what this display refresh rate is.  Most people are not aware of this and people do not even pay attention to this when buying a smartphone.

By the way, the number of smartphones with a refresh rate of 60 Hz is more in the market.  Apart from this, the refresh rate of expensive smartphones found in the market ranges from 90 Hz to 144 Hz.

So let's know what is the display refresh rate and what are the advantages and disadvantages of high display refresh rate.  Apart from this, you will also get to know which phones are available in the market with display refresh rates ranging from 90 Hz to 120 Hz.

What is the display refresh rate

In easy language, the display refresh rate means the number of times your screen refreshes in a second.  It is measured in hertz.

If your phone's display refresh rate is 60 Hz, it means that your screen will refresh your image 60 times in a second.  At the same time, if your phone's display refresh rate is 90 Hz, then your screen will refresh your image 90 times in a second.

What is the frame rate (FPS)

There will be many of you who get confused about high refresh rate and high frame rate.

Refresh rate has been mentioned above.

The frame rate is also called frequency per second (FPS).

FPS means the number of times a frame pushes a video or game playing in your mobile in a second.

As we know, videos are made from a combination of multiple images. When these pictures move fast together, we see things moving. Thus the higher the frame rate, the smoother the video will appear.

You can easily watch videos of 90 fps at 90 Hz display rate. To use 60 fps content at a 90 Hz display rate, the display will automatically switch to 60 Hz. But you cannot see 90 fps content at 60 Hz display rate.

The 90 Hz display takes 11.1 ml seconds to completely refresh while the 60 Hz display takes 16.6 ml seconds.

Advantages and disadvantages of high refresh rate

 • The higher the display refresh rate in mobile, the smoother its screen will be.  That is, gaming and watching videos will be quite smooth.  Also, it will be quite easy to scroll and there will not be too much emphasis on the eyes.

 • High display refresh rate will lead to higher battery consumption.  In phones with a 90 Hz display refresh rate, the battery consumption will be 15 to 20% higher than a phone with a 60 Hz refresh rate.
